Andhra Pradesh Restores Power in 90% of Villages After Cyclone Arnab
Andhra Pradesh is restoring essential services after Cyclone Arnab, with nearly 90% of affected villages regaining electricity. CM Chandrababu Naidu is monitoring relief work as crop damage assessment and recovery operations continue.
According to the state government, electricity restoration is progressing rapidly across affected areas. Of the 5,404 villages that experienced power outages under the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL), electricity has been restored in 4,881 villages. This means nearly 90 per cent of the affected villages have regained power. Restoration work has also been completed at 513 of the 552 affected electricity substations.
Road connectivity is also being restored following widespread disruption caused by trees uprooted during the cyclone. All 2,270 trees that had fallen across roads under the Roads and Buildings Department have been cleared. Traffic movement was affected at 137 locations, of which connectivity has been restored at 119 locations.
Efforts to repair mobile communication networks are continuing alongside electricity and road restoration. Of the 1,045 mobile towers affected by the cyclone, 661 have been restored, while work on the remaining towers is still underway.
Meanwhile, the cyclone and associated rainfall have caused extensive damage to agricultural and horticultural crops across the state. Agricultural crops spread over 3,52,254 hectares have been submerged across 16 districts. An additional 23,211 hectares of horticultural crops have also been affected.
Central government teams will visit Andhra Pradesh to assess the extent of crop damage. The state government is preparing to present a comprehensive assessment of the ground-level losses before the Centre and seek assistance for the affected areas.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to continue restoration and relief operations until assistance reaches the last affected person and all outstanding problems are resolved. With electricity, road connectivity and mobile communication services still being restored in several areas, government teams remain deployed on the ground to bring essential services back to normal as quickly as possible.
